ABOUT ME

Leadership Guided by Empathy, Humility

These are my platform tenets:

  1. Restore Hope in Education

  2. Connect Education to the Future

  3. Embrace Innovation                                      My platform rests on core values, including empathy-guided decision-making, human rights for everyone and leadership based in humility.

A little more about me...

My Cheyenne name is Vonȧhe’e, and I am an enrolled citizen of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. I was fortunate to grow up on a small farm on the Winnebago Reservation in Nebraska and graduated from Winnebago Public Schools. My distinct tribal, cultural, and familial background influenced my career in collaborative programming in education. It provided me with the core values and moral purpose for serving as a liaison amid my various roles and segments of the community. I devote much of my time to de-centering oppressive pedagogies and practices in organization to advance anti-racism, multicultural and diversity strategies.

When I have time off, I spend it in the outdoors at local lakes, attending pow-wows, hiking or gardening. I am a proud Nahko (Mom) to two sons. They inspire me to ensure that our younger generations have a racially just and sustainable future. My oldest son graduated from Northeast High School and my youngest son attends Dawes Middle School.

This past Fall 2020, I was elected to serve as the Chairperson of the Nebraska Native American Caucus for the Democratic Party, which is an honor and privilege. My experiences enable me with key insight to advance concrete changes to community empowerment, program development, policy implementation and fundraising.
