The Kickoff Event for Colette M YellowRobe’s Lincoln school board campaign at the Lux Center for the Arts was a huge success! Nearly 40 people attended and enjoyed a healthy and scrumptious array of fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses.
We heard passionate endorsements from several supporters. Rosebud Lakota elder Phyllis Stone offered a prayer and spoke about the need to elect a strong Native woman like Yellow Robe to the school board.
“I know we have all these wonderful people that do work for us on the school, but there isn’t anybody like Colette,” she said. “We need someone like Colette.”
Nikita Harris, a professor of communication and information at the University of Alabama, shared a story about a young Native woman who once took her class and stood up for her teacher to a particularly troublesome male student who acted in a demeaning manner toward Harris.
Harris said Yellow Robe demonstrated at a young age her willingness to listen and advocate on behalf of others when she saw an injustice.
“It is the right time. It is the right place,” Harris said. “It is the right occasion, and Dr. Colette Yellow Robe is the right candidate and we need to get behind her and support her.”
The next volunteer opportunity is Saturday, March 13th, and Sunday March 14th. Here is a link to that event and a volunteer sign-up form so you can help Dr. Yellow Robe get elected! https://www.facebook.com/events/492575398792334
